Ingredients

  • 4 Chicken Breasts Boneless and skinless (Chicken breasts cook quickly and are perfect for this recipe.)
  • ¼ cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium soy sauce is a great option.
  • 2 tbsp Honey Adds sweetness and helps the chicken caramelize.
  • 2 tbsp Rice Vinegar Balances out the sweetness with a tangy kick.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil Gives the marinade a rich, nutty flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced (Fresh garlic adds an aromatic savory depth.)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Ginger Grated (Grated ginger gives the dish a refreshing zesty kick.)
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch Helps thicken the marinade for a glossy finish.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds Optional (For added crunch and flavor after cooking.)
  • 2 Green Onions Sliced (A fresh garnish with a slight peppery note.)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer (The key to achieving the perfect crispy texture.)
  • Mixing Bowl (For whisking together the teriyaki marinade ingredients.)
  • Tongs (For safely flipping the chicken in the air fryer.)
  • Basting Brush (To apply extra marinade for glazing.)
  • Measuring Spoons (For accurate measurements of the marinade ingredients.)

Method

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix the teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil (if using). Stir well to combine.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken thighs in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to allow the flavors to infuse.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  4. Cook the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade and place the thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through. The chicken should be golden brown on the outside and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Rest the Chicken: Once cooked, let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes to retain its juices.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Slice the chicken and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve with steamed rice or your favorite side dish.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken breasts if you prefer leaner meat, but thighs will give a juicier result.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey based on your preference.
