1 Small saucepan
1 fine mesh strainer
1 Wooden spoon
1 pitcher
1 citrus juicer
- 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves plus extra for garnish
- 3/4 cup sugar adjust to taste
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 4–6 lemons
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice as needed
- Lemon slices for garnish
In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until berries break down (about 5-7 minutes).
Remove from heat and stir in the basil. Let it steep for 10 minutes.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher. Discard solids.
Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the remaining cold water. Stir well, taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Serve over ice with basil and lemon slices.
For a fizzy version, replace half of the water with chilled sparkling water just before serving. You can also muddle extra basil directly in your glass for a stronger herbal kick.
