Method
- Add ingredients to bread machine: Pour warm water, olive oil, salt, sugar, flour, and yeast into the bread pan in the order recommended by your machine. Set to the dough cycle and start.
- Let the machine knead and rise: Once the dough cycle is complete (about 1.5 hours), remove dough onto a floured surface.
- Divide and shape rolls: Cut dough into 6-8 equal portions. Shape each into a ball, then flatten slightly. Use a Kaiser stamp or knife to score the tops with the traditional swirl pattern.
- Second rise: Place rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely with a towel and let rise in a warm area for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven: While the rolls rise, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place a shallow pan of hot water on the bottom rack for steam.
- Apply egg wash and toppings: Beat the egg and brush it over the rolls. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake: Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These Kaiser rolls are best enjoyed fresh but freeze well. To reheat, warm in a 350°F oven for 8–10 minutes. Perfect with Outback Steakhouse Potato Soup or loaded with Sriracha Meatballs.
