Equipment

  • Pie pan or dessert dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric hand mixer or stand mixer
  • 9x13-inch baking pan

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 can about 14 oz cherries in syrup (or fresh cherries)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Angel Food Cake: Follow the directions on the angel food cake mix package. Bake the cake in a 9×13-inch baking pan. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely.
  • Cut the Cake into Cubes: After the cake has cooled, cut it into 1-inch cubes. Set aside.
  • Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar together using an electric hand mixer until the mixture is smooth. Add the whipped topping and almond extract, and continue to beat until the mixture is creamy and well combined.
  • Layer the Dessert: In a trifle dish or a large baking dish, place half of the cubed angel food cake at the bottom.
  • Add the Cream Cheese Layer: Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake cubes.
  • Add the Cherry Filling: Evenly spoon the entire can of Cherry Fruit Filling over the cream cheese layer.
  • Repeat the Layers: Repeat the process by adding the remaining cubed cake, followed by the remaining cream cheese mixture, and top with the second can of cherry fruit filling.
  • Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the dessert for a few hours or overnight for the best flavor. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

You can modify the crust by adding crushed pretzels for a sweet-salty flavor.
For a dairy-free version, substitute the cream cheese with a dairy-free alternative and use non-dairy whipped cream.
This dessert can be made ahead of time, making it a perfect option for busy days or gatherings.
