This Chipotle Steak recipe combines smoky chipotle peppers with tender steak, creating a flavorful dish perfect for tacos, bowls, or grilled steak salads. The marinade ensures every bite is packed with a delicious smoky heat that's sure to impress.
Make the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together the chipotle peppers, minced garlic, olive oil, lime juice, honey, cumin, smoked paprika and a generous pinch each of salt and pepper. Gently stir until incorporated.
Marinate the steaks: Add the steaks to a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade overtop. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours for a deeper flavour.
Cook the Steak: Heat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Remove the steaks from the marinade, discarding any excess marinade. Grill or pan-sear the steaks until they develop a nice crust, about 4–5 minutes a side until they reach your desired doneness (130–135°F for medium-rare, 140–145°F for medium, 150°F for medium-well).
Rest the Steak : Remove the steaks from heat and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This ensures the juices redistribute and the steak stays tender and juicy.
Serve: Slice the steak thinly against the grain. Serve in tacos, bowls, or with your favourite sides like rice, grilled vegetables, or a fresh salad.
Notes
You can adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or fewer chipotle peppers to the marinade. For a milder flavor, you can substitute the chipotle peppers with a milder chili powder or smoked paprika. If you don't have sirloin, flank steak or ribeye are also great choices for this recipe.
