- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 metal pan.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs and vanilla; beat until creamy.
- Sift in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir gently until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
- Pour batter into the pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before slicing.
