Ingredients

  • 2 large Onions Yellow or sweet onions
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil Or neutral oil
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika Optional
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic powder Optional

Equipment

  • 1 Sharp knife or mandoline
  • 1 Large bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet or air fryer basket
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Tongs
  • 1 Paper towels

Method

  1. Slice onions into very thin rings using a sharp knife or mandoline for even crisping.
  2. Separate rings and pat completely dry to remove surface moisture.
  3. Toss onion rings gently with olive oil and seasonings until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange rings in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet or air fryer basket.
  5. Bake at 200°C (400°F) or air-fry at 190°C (375°F) until golden and crisp, flipping once.
  6. Remove when deeply golden and let rest briefly to finish crisping before serving.

Notes

• Thinner slices result in crispier onion ring chips.
• Do not overcrowd the pan or basket or the onions will steam instead of crisp.
• Season after cooking for extra crunch if desired.
• Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated briefly in the oven or air fryer.
• Works well as a topping for burgers, salads, and soups.
