Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey for a leaner option
  • 1 cup Quaker Oats old-fashioned or quick oats
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup ketchup plus extra for topping
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking dish or loaf pan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or fork
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Quaker Oats, milk, ketchup, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and smoked paprika. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the Meatloaf: Transfer the mixture into the prepared loaf pan and shape it into a firm, even loaf.
  4. Add the Topping: Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf for extra flavor and caramelization.
  5. Bake: Cover the loaf with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until the top is slightly browned.
  6. Check for Doneness: Insert a meat thermometer into the center of the loaf. It should read 160°F (71°C) for beef or 165°F (74°C) for turkey.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or a side salad. Enjoy! 😋

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Try adding grated carrots or bell peppers for extra flavor and nutrients.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
