  • Spatula for smashing
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • For the Smash Tacos:
  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef (80/20 for flavor)
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack
  • For Toppings:
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Pickled jalapeƱos
  • Sour cream or taco sauce
  • Guacamole optional
  • Chopped cilantro

Instructions

Season the Ground Beef:

  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Fold gently until thoroughly incorporated.

Preheat the Skillet:

  • Wipe a large skillet or griddle with oil and heat it over medium-high heat.

Cook and Smash:

  • Put a tortilla on top of the skillet. Now, place a small ball of seasoned ground beef (approximately 2 oz) atop that mound.
  • Use a spatula to mash and smash the beef thinly and spread it over the tortilla. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the meat begins to brown.

Flip and Add Cheese:

  • Flip the tortilla and beef so the meat is on top now. Mulch on some shredded cheese and boil for one more 1-2 minutes till the cheese is melted.

Assemble the Tacos:

  • Transfer the smashed taco out of the skillet. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve hot with a side of guacamole, salsa, or chips. Enjoy this fun taco twist!
