  • 1/4 cup furikake Japanese seasoning for garnish
  • 1 sheet nori shredded (optional, for garnish)

Equipment

  • Rice Cooker – To cook the sushi rice to the perfect consistency.
  • Baking Dish (9x9 or similar size) – For layering the sushi rice and crab mixture, then baking.
  • Mixing Bowl – To combine the imitation crab, mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sriracha.
  • Spatula or Spoon – To evenly spread the rice and crab mixture in the baking dish.
  • Knife – For slicing green onions and cutting nori if using as garnish.

  • Measuring Spoons and Cups – For accurate measurements of soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, etc.
  • Plastic Wrap or Lid – For covering leftovers if storing in the fridge.

Method

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions, then season with rice vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the Topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded imitation crab, mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sriracha (if using). Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  3. Assemble the Sushi Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the cooled sushi rice evenly in the bottom of a baking dish. Layer the crab mixture over the rice, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds, sliced green onions, furikake, and shredded nori for garnish. Serve warm with soy sauce on the side.

Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven before serving.
