Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease the baking dish lightly with olive oil.
In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook ground beef until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and half of the Italian seasoning. Drain excess fat, then stir in marinara sauce. Remove from heat.
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, remaining Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Arrange three sheets of oven-ready noodles over the sauce.
Spread half the ricotta mixture over noodles, followed by meat sauce, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat layering: noodles, ricotta, sauce, mozzarella.
Finish with a top layer of noodles covered with remaining sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
