Ingredients

  • 9 sheets Barilla oven-ready lasagna noodles
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • cups marinara sauce
  • cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley optional garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Dish (9x9-inch or similar size)
  • 1 Skillet
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease the baking dish lightly with olive oil.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook ground beef until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and half of the Italian seasoning. Drain excess fat, then stir in marinara sauce. Remove from heat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, remaining Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
  4. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Arrange three sheets of oven-ready noodles over the sauce.
  5. Spread half the ricotta mixture over noodles, followed by meat sauce, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat layering: noodles, ricotta, sauce, mozzarella.
  6. Finish with a top layer of noodles covered with remaining sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Oven-ready noodles require sufficient sauce coverage to ensure even cooking without drying.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or vegetables for variations.
  • Lasagna reheats well; store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the oven or microwave.
