Ingredients

  • 1 bag Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned Stuffing Mix classic version
  • 1 cup celery finely chopped
  • 1 cup onion finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper optional
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1/2 tsp sage or thyme optional for extra flavor

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet for sautéing vegetables
  • 1 Mixing Bowl (for combining ingredients)
  • 1 Baking dish 9x13 inch, buttered
  • 1 Wooden spoon (for stirring)
  • 1 Measuring cups for accurate liquid ratios

Method

  1. Preheat oven. Set oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly butter your baking dish.
  2. Cook vegetables. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and celery, then cook for about 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  3. Mix the stuffing. In a large bowl, combine the Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix with the cooked vegetables. Pour in chicken broth gradually while stirring gently until the bread cubes are evenly moistened.
  4. Add herbs and seasonings. Stir in parsley, sage, or thyme if desired. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper.
  5. Bake until golden. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until the top turns crisp and golden.
  6. Serve warm. Serve immediately as a side dish with roasted turkey or chicken, creamy mashed potatoes, or the Old Fashioned Vegetable Beef Soup Recipe for a hearty family meal.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, replace part of the broth with turkey drippings.
  • Add browned sausage, mushrooms, or diced apples for delicious variations.
  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth and olive oil instead of butter.
  • If you like a crispy top, bake uncovered for the last 10 minutes.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven with a splash of broth to restore moisture.
