Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
Cook the Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until translucent.
- Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until browned.
- Stir in shredded cabbage and cook for another 5–6 minutes until tender.
- Drain excess liquid and let the mixture cool slightly.
Assemble the Runzas:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each into a rectangle (about 6x8 inches).
- Spoon filling into the center, fold edges like an envelope, and seal tightly.
- Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Bake the Runzas:
- Brush tops with melted butter or egg wash for a golden crust.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Serve & Enjoy:
- Serve hot with a side of Matzo Ball Soup or Pureed Vegetable Soup
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for future meals.
Notes

- The dough can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight.
- Perfect for meal prep; reheats well in the oven or air fryer.
